With her song “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” in 1952, Kitty Wells broke down a female barrier in country music. This song made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts and also became the idol for all the aspiring female country singers. However, initially this song was rather controversial and was banned by many radio stations. But public loved it and it became a hit country song.
